2 Min Review: 1st T20 SA vs Eng

We are going to start a new idea today, and that is our 2 min reviews of England and other major games! We know plenty of places will offer in depth reviews so we’re going to try and give you something that’s a little more than a tweet but only takes up a minute or two of your day.

So... England won the toss and chose to field. They included both Curran’s with Wood and Moeen missing out, while SA were missing players presumably due to Covid.

Bavuma was out early thanks to a silly shot selection but de Kock (30) and Faf built well; with Faf in particular timing it exquisitely and making a great half century of 58. This was then backed up by some strong performances towards the end of the innings from Van Der Dussen (37) and Klassen (20). Sam Curran was easily the pick of the bowlers with a 3 fer for England, whilst his brother Tom had a day to forget despite a marvellous final ball.

The chase by England then started with several stutters as Roy went to a second-ball duck, and both Buttler and Malan fell rather cheaply. However, this brought Jonny Bairstow and Ben Stokes to the middle, and unsurprisingly they kickstarted the fight back. Stokes fell for 37 but YJB powered on with a truly magnificent innings; and then was assisted by a horror over from Hendricks. Sam Curran also eventually came in for a cameo and slapped his second ball for 6, before YJB then finished it off with two sublime strikes and left himself 86*, as England romped home with 4 balls to spare.

Bairstow was of course the man of the match, although Sam Curran couldn’t have been far off either! For SA, Linde impressed on debut with his bouncy and economical left arm spin, while Faf was the main protagonist with the bat.

Questions remain about Jason Roy and Tom Curran for England; Roy I think will be backed and stay opening, but I’d expect Wood or Topley in for TC on Sunday.

Let us know your thoughts on the game and our content so far.

Have a good weekend, see you Sunday for the next T20 and obviously.... Go Well!
